The Lost Heaven Police Department, abbreviated LHPD, is the police force operating in the city of Lost Heaven. At least in the first half of the 20th century, this department was bribed in the interests of organized crime by the mafia family Peppone and subsequently by the Salieri and Morello families, while it was largely controlled by Morell's criminal organization, which gave them a huge advantage over Salieri's.

The LHPD includes foot police and motorized patrols in blue uniforms, usually equipped with S&W Model 10 M&P revolvers, within the framework of a declared search they use pump shotguns and mostly at roadblocks also Thompson 1928 submachine guns. Exceptionally, we can see a police officer with a sniper rifle or Colt 1911 pistols (mission Coura - roofs).

In the later stage of the game, we will encounter the highway patrol, which differs only in a larger, stronger and faster vehicle. The corps also includes detectives, dressed in long dark and light coats with hats. They conduct investigations of murders and other serious crimes and mainly use small Colt Detective Special revolvers. The Lostheaven police only stay in the city; we usually never see them in the countryside.

Wanted levels

There are three levels of police intervention. The level icon is displayed at the top of the screen.

The lowest level is a fine. In this case, a note will appear at the top of the screen. You will receive a fine for speeding, running a red light, or for a traffic accident. If you get a fine, you just have to get out and pay the fine.

The second level is arrest and handcuffs. This happens if the police see us with a weapon in our hands (except for a handgun for close combat), if we hit someone, steal a car, escape from paying a fine, exceed the speed limit by more than 40 miles per hour, or commit a fourth offense that normally only carries a fine. If we are arrested, the current mission will fail.

The last option is killing. We are shown a picture of a gun and the police are no longer interested in anything other than killing us. This is the case if we shoot near the police, kill someone, or attack a police officer.

If we lose sight of the police, the image at the top of the screen will fade. If this happens and we get out or into the car, the image will change to a police officer with question marks. This symbol means that the police do not know where we are. Sometimes this can happen by mistake even when the police are right next to us. Police search / wanted

A police search is perhaps the most annoying thing that can happen when you have a problem with the police. The police can declare it when they try to arrest or shoot you, in most cases the search starts automatically, but rarely we can see a policeman running to call for backup at a phone booth or fire station. This shows us that all the police in the city already know about us. They will start to come after us from all sides and if we meet any while escaping, they will immediately come after us. This cannot happen to us outside the search and only individuals who saw us in the act know about us. To shake off the police during a search, we have to disappear from their sight and wait for the search to expire. A while after they lose us, namely, the red bar of the search will start to decrease.
